The half an hour start

One of the most common complaints I hear from other mothers is that they don't get to have enough downtime, time to just relax and do nothing.  I also felt that way 2 years ago when my daughter was only 1 year old, my daily routine was planned predominantly around my daughter's schedule.  In short, the driving force was my daughter. Even when I did get the chance to do my work, everything took a lot longer as my focus was never fully there.

The most fundamental thing I have learnt is that having how much downtime is not important, what's important is the quality of the time spent alone.  People who say they are too busy have already made up their minds that they won't allow the time just for themselves, so of course they will never get it.  For me, I decided to spend at least half an hour every morning with a 10-minute energy cleansing session with my singing bowl, followed by a 20-minute meditation in order to kick start my day.

Half an hour a day is totally achievable for most people if you do allow some small adjustments in your daily life.  Instead of browsing on the phone for half an hour before you jump into the shower or get ready for work, why not use that time to clear your head and detox your mind?  For those with littlies at home, having a night time routine when the kids are in bed is equally useful especially for preparing the mind and body ready for some quality shut eye.  Sleep is so important, but even more important is to ensure we get enough deep sleep, so winding down before bed is a good daily ritual to have in order to encourage the body to enter deep sleep.

Half an hour a day is all you need, it's a good starting point and I'm sure you'll want to add more quality #metime to your life once you have experienced the luxury of switching off completely.
